Importance of Dental X-rays

Importance of Dental X-rays

When a dental professional is providing you with the proper oral care that you need, there are times when they may ask you to get a dental x-ray during your visit. When getting x-rays at the dentist, all you need to do is sit back and relax in the dental chair that you’re already sitting in- after all, it’s not a complicated procedure. How important is it to get a dental x-ray?

Lights! Camera! Action!

We’ve listed some of the reasons why it is important to get dental x-rays below:

Getting x-rays during your visit gives your dentist the opportunity to get a full visualization of all teeth in your mouth. It allows your dentist to adequately see if any impending issues (including under the gums that we can’t see without x-rays) that may be on the horizon. Essentially, with a dental x-ray you help them help you!

A dental x-ray allows you, the patient, to see exactly what your dentist is talking about when they’re describing an oral-related issue. With an x-ray, dental professionals can more easily detect cavities in your mouth.

Your dentist can adequately see if you have any tooth decay, extra teeth, infections, jaw fractures, growths, and possible bone loss. When you get dental x-rays, it allows your dentist to take proactive steps in accessing your specific needs.

Continuing Education

Hey Everyone!!  Dr. Jennifer here! Did you know that all dentists everywhere are required to complete a certain number of continuing education courses to keep their dental licenses active?   I prefer to go above and beyond this requirement to try and stay up to date with cutting edge technology and new techniques.  I hope to tell you about some of the courses I take!

On Friday, September 30th, ( I know I’m so behind on posting this!) you could find me spending my day off at Great Wolfe Lodge Conference Center in Concord.  I love hitting up the local Continuing Education Courses.  It makes it a little simpler to gain some new knowledge without having to be away from the office or my husband, Zach, for a long trip.

perio-ceNorth State Perio hosted a fabulous course by the renowned Dr. Daniel Melker.  Dr. Melker is a renowned Periodontist that works in Florida.  Dr. Melker spent the day speaking in detail about his philosophy and techniques using a TEAM approach between Periodontists and the Restorative Dentists for the best success in dentistry.

It was very interesting to learn some of the different ways the periodontist can play a major role in our restorative dentistry!  I can’t wait to put what I learned to work in my own office with the Team I have created with the amazing Periodontists at North State Perio.

xoxo Dr. Jennifer

Digital Impression Scanner

Hey Everyone!!  I’m back this week to talk to you about our latest addition of dental technology, the digital impression scanner!!

We are happy to announce that our impressions at First Impressions Family Dentistry will now be digital!  We know how much everyone hates all the goop and gagging that come with traditional impressions,    So we are very excited to have the 3M True Definition Digital Impression Scanner in our office.

In September, amy dental assistants came in on their day off to train on our new machine.  Our instructor was so great to work with and really taught us the ropes.  I got to be the first guinea pig!  After our training session, we had two patients volunteer to let us practice on them.

Our training days are always a fun time.  You can see a few pictures from the day below!

If you have been into the office for a crown or a guard in the last few months, you may have already gotten to experience our digital impressions.  Our patients have been able to look at the images with 3D glasses and really see the work that goes into it.  Everyone has been impressed and we look forward to sharing our new technology with you.    We will be using our scanner for all crowns, bridges, guards, and INVISALIGN!!!
